The EU sanctions regulatory framework
Since 2014, the European Union has introduced a series of economic and trade sanctions against Russia, which have been tightened since 2022, in response to the conflict with Ukraine. The EU sanctions packages, impose export and import restrictions, with significant impacts on customs compliance, export control, and relations with countries subject to restrictions.
Restrictive measures and obligations for companies
Among the main measures:
- Prohibition on the export of dual-use goods, advanced technologies, machinery, and industrial components; restrictions on imports of raw materials, energy, steel, timber and gold;
- Limitations on the provision of professional and consulting services;
- Freezing of assets and financial restrictions on companies, banking institutions and individuals.
Regulatory monitoring
With each new regulatory package, the export compliance, framework becomes more complex, requiring enhanced and updated internal controls.
